It was first introduced in a whitepaper titled 'Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System' in October 2008. The actual implementation of the Bitcoin network started in January 2009, with the release of the first open-source Bitcoin client software. The first block, known as the Genesis Block, was mined by Nakamoto on January 3, 2009. This marked the birth of bitcoin and the beginning of the blockchain revolution.
